Welcome to the Wadsworth Ohio VFW Post 1089 website. We are Veterans of Foreign Wars. Perhaps you are looking to share some common experiences or have questions to ask fellow veterans who have been there and done that. Our focus is the veterans of Panama, El Salvador, Bosnia, Croatia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Global War on Terrorism. You will soon replace the remaining WWII, Korean and Vietnam vets fading to their twilight.
One of our proudest contributions of VFW Post 1089 is our participation in the Wadsworth Honor Guard team. Our Honor Guard consists of members from our Post and the American Legion Post 170. We work closely with our comrades from the Legion and we perform 80- to 100 funeral honor services every year, the majority at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery six times a year.
We organize our local annual Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day events Our Color Guard marches proudly in many City of Wadsworth events and at other special occasions. We honor our Wadsworth High School Seniors directly entering the service upon graduation. And twice a year we spend 3-4 hours on a Sunday afternoon at the Wade Park VA hospital assisting a bingo event and serving snacks to patients in attendance.
We host special dinners including the famous “Swiss Steak” dinner in the chilly months of fall and winter. We have been highly recognized for our food fare at the annual “Taste of Wadsworth”. Our canteen is a pleasant warm space where gentlemen and lady members enjoy some laughs and each other’s company. We host an annual members picnic in the early fall. And let’s not forget that the VFW Post 1089 makes substantial contributions to local charities every year through the generosity of its members.
“But I don’t have the time.” to join. We understand. You have young families and a myriad of other work demands. But get to know us; we’d love to get to know you. Unlike many of us veterans from an earlier time who never got an invitation to join a local VFW Post…THIS IS YOUR INVITATION.
We hope this website indicates our desire to move our Post forward into this electronic age making us more accessible to those who follow in our footsteps. Help expand our content and usefulness to you. We welcome your input as we make our club more family oriented and versatile.
Above all, the primary VFW Post 1089 mission is to HONOR and SERVE VETERANS. Come join us!
